Cooking instruction:

Remarks: You may use only water to boil the herbs which is beneficial enough for the new mama. Or, you may add half a black chicken to the herbs with just enough water to cover ingredients and boil for 3 to 4 hours. The preference is totally yours to enjoy!

Day 1

Sheng Hua Soup

Cooking instruction:

  1. Quick rinse herbs and put into slow cooker.
  2. Add 3 bowls of water and boil for 2 to 4 hours.

 

Fuzhou Red Wine Chicken

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 (400g) kampong chicken chopped into chunks
  • 150g shredded old ginger
  • 600ml Fuzhou red wine
  • 16g rock sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Method:

  1. Heat up 2 tbsp of sesame oil in a wok and stir fry shredded ginger for 3 mins.
  2. Add in chicken chunks and stir fry until pale yellow. Cover with lid and braised on low heat for 3 mins.
  3. Add in red wine, rock sugar and salt, quick stir and simmer over low heat for 10 mins to cook.

Remarks:

Those who cannot consume too much alcohol, you may wish to replace 600ml of red wine with 200ml of red wine + 400ml of water.

 

 

Day 2

Ginseng Niu Qi Soup

  2. Add 3 bowls of water and boil for 2 to 4 hours.

Fermented blackcurrent Chicken

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 (400g) kampong chicken chopped into chunks
  • 200g finely chopped old ginger
  • 600ml fermented blackcurrent or glutinous rice wine
  • 30g black fungus soaked till soft and shredded
  • 1 tbsp light soy sauce

Method:

  1. Heat up 3 tbsp of sesame oil in a wok and stir fry ginger for 3 mins.
  2. Add in chicken and stir to cook evenly. While stirring, add in some blackcurrent wine, soy sauce and lastly black fungus. Stir fry till well mixed.
  3. Add in remaining blackcurrent wine. Cover with lid and simmer on low heat for about 7 – 8 mins till chicken is fully cooked.

 

Fermented Blackcurrent Wine

Ingredients:

  • 600g dried blackcurrent
  • 550g slab sugar or rock sugar
  • 1 bottle (750ml) distilled Chinese wine
  • 2,250ml water

Method:

  1. Rinse and drain blackcurrent, place them in a large pan to steam for 20 mins. Remove, set aside to cool completely.
  2. Boil sugar in water till completely dissolved. Set aside to cool before pouring into large glass bottle.
  3. Add in cooled blackcurrent and half a bottle of distilled Chinese wine, stir well with sugar water in large glass bottle.
  4.  Cover the mouth of bottle with a cloth and seal it firmly. Cover with bottle cap and set aside for one week. Add in the remaining distilled Chinese wine and stir well. Seal and continue to soak for another 45 – 60 days.
  5. Filter and it is ready to use.

Remarks:

Make sure all utensils and containers are clean. Dry the glass bottle under the sun after washing.

Distilled Chinese wine can be purchased at any Chinese grocery and herbs stores.

 

 

Day 3

Du Zhong Soup

Cooking instruction:

  1. Quick rinse herbs and put into slow cooker.
  2. Add 3 bowls of water and boil for 2 to 4 hours.

 

Braised chicken with shallots

Ingredients

  • 300g kampong chicken chopped
  • 150g chopped shallots
  • 1 tsp chopped garlic
  • 150ml water
  • Seasoning: 1/8 tsp salt, 2 1/2 tbsp light soy sauce and 1/2 tsp dark soy sauce.

Method:

  1. Heat up 3 tbsp sesame oil to saute chopped garlic and shallots till fragrant. Blend in chicken pieces and stir well.
  2. Add in part seasoning and stir fry until aromatic. Pour in water and the remaining seasoning. Braised until gravy is thick. Serve hot!

Simmered chicken with ginger root

Ingredients:

  • 300g kampong chicken whole legs
  • 250g fresh ginger roots flatten lightly
  • 1 tsp chopped garlic
  • 1 tsp salted bean paste
  • 400ml water
  • 3 tbsp light soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sugar

Method:

  1. Stir fry chopped garlic with 1 tbsp sesame oil in a preheated wok. Add chicken and salted bean paste, fry till aromatic. Blend in ginger, light soy sauce and sugar. Stir well.
  2. Pour in water and bring to boil, simmer over a medium heat for 10-15mins until chicken are cooked thorough, or the gravy is thickened. Serve hot.

 

 

Day 5

Niu Qi Wolfberry Soup

Cooking instruction:

  1. Quick rinse herbs and put into slow cooker.
  2. Add 3 bowls of water and boil for 2 to 4 hours.

 

Steamed spare ribs with wine and ginger paste

Ingredients:

  • 200g spare ribs
  • Fresh ginger paste (40g fresh ginger + 50ml water grind in a blender)
  • Marination: 3 tbsp ginger wine, 1 tbsp glutinous rice wine, 1/2 tbsp sesame oil and 1/2 tsp salt.

Method:

  1. Prepare fresh ginger paste.
  2. Marinate Spare ribs for approximately one hour.
  3. Place the marinated spare ribs on a steamer then top with ginger paste, mix gently.
  4. Steam over high heat for 15-20 mins till cooked. Serve hot!

 

 

Day 6

Huang Qi Tang Sheng Soup

Steamed pork slices with preserved mustard cabbages

Ingredients:

  • 200g pork sliced thinly
  • 100g preserved sweeted mustard cabbages
  • 50g fresh ginger shredded finely
  • Marination: 1/2 tbsp sesame oil, 1 tbsp light soy sauce, 1/2 tsp sugar, 1 tsp cornstarch and 4 tbsp water.

Method:

  1. Marinate pork for about 15 mins.
  2. Wash, clean and shred finely the preserved mustard cabbages and soak in water for 5 mins. Remove and drained. Stir fry in a preheated dried wok till fragrant, remove from heat, set aside.
  3. Deep fry ginger in hot oil until crispy and golden, remove from heat, set aside.
  4. Put the preserved mustard cabbages into a steamer, then top with the marinated pork. Steam altogether over high heat for 10 mins until meat cooked. Remove from heat, drizzle with the crispy ginger shreds on top and serve hot!

 

 

Day 7

Kidney Nourishing Soup

Fried rice with egg and ginger

Ingredients:

  • 200g cooked rice
  • 80g shredded old ginger
  • 2 eggs beaten
  • 2 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1/8 salt
  • 1 tbsp light soy sauce

Method:

  1. Heat up sesame oil quick stir fry ginger shreds, add beaten eggs slowly.
  2. Add in cooked rice and salt. Stirring constantly over high heat till fragrant.
  3. Add in soy sauce sauce and stir well. Serve hot!

 

 

Day 8

Ginseng Bai Shao Soup

Deep fry red grain wine residue chicken wings

Ingredients:

  • 4 pcs chicken wing
  • Marination: 2 tbsps shaoxing wine, 2 tbsp glutinous rice wine, 1 tbsp red grain wine residue and 1/2 tsp salt.

Method:

  1. Marinate chicken wing for about 4-6 hours.
  2. Deep fry marinated chicken wings over medium high until cooked evenly. Drained and serve!

 

 

Day 9

Si Wu Soup

Cooking instruction:

  1. Quick rinse herbs and put into slow cooker.
  2. Add 3 bowls of water and boil for 2 to 4 hours.

 

Braised meat balls with longan

  • 150g minced meat
  • 1/2 tbsp chopped ginger
  • 4 fresh ginger slices
  • 1 garlic cloves flatten
  • 10g black fungi soaked and cut into pieces
  • 30g dried longan
  • Seasoning: 1/2 tbsp light soy sauce, 1 tsp sesame oil, 1/4 tsp pepper and 1/2 tbsp cornstarch.
  • Sauce: 1/2 tbsp light soy sauce, 1 tbsp ginger juice, 1/2 tbsp shaoxing wine and 400ml water. Mix well!

Method:

  1. Mix the minced pork with chopped ginger and seasoning until well mixed. Roll into small meat balls. Deep fry in hot oil until golden brown. Remove and set aside.
  2. Heat up 1 tbsp sesame oil to fragrant the ginger slices and garlic cloves. Pour in sauce mixture and bring to boil. Blend in meat balls, dried longan and black fungi, stir then simmer for 15 mins. Serve hot!

Turmeric fried chicken

Ingredients:

  • 250g kampong chicken cut into pieces
  • 15g fresh turmeric
  • 15g fresh ginger
  • 30g shallots
  • 1 garlic clove
  • Seasoning: 1/2 tbsp curry powder, 1/2 tsp salt, 1/2 tbsp light soy sauce and 1 tsp sugar.
  • Batter: 100g self-raising flour, 1/2 tsp salt and 340ml water. Mix well!

Method:

  1. Grind turmeric, ginger, shallots and garlic in a blender. Make a paste.
  2. Marinate chicken with seasoning and paste for at least 3 hours
  3. Coat marinated chicken with batter mixture, deep fry over medium heat until cooked golden brown. Drain and serve!

 

 

Day 11

Confinement Tonic Soup

Shallow fry pork chop in turmeric flavour

Ingredients:

  • 2 pcs pork chop
  • Marination: 20g fresh turmeric, 30g fresh ginger, 1 tbsp light soy sauce, 1/2 tbsp sesame oil, 1 tsp cornstarch and 1/4 tsp pepper.
  • Sauce: 1/2 tbsp light soy sauce, 1/4 tsp sugar. 1/4 tsp pepper and 80ml water. Mix well!

Method:

  1. Use blender, grind fresh turmeric and ginger into paste.
  2. Pound the pork chop lightly with the back of the knife until tender. Marinate together with paste for about 30 mins.
  3. Shallow fry marinated pork chop with 3 tbsp sesame oil in the preheated wok over medium heat until golden brown on both sides.
  4. Combine remaining marinade solution with sauce mixture, bring to a boil with 1/2 tbsp sesame oil in the hot wok. Cook until slightly thicken, remove and pour over to the fried pork chops. Serve hot!

  • Marination: 2 tbsp crushed peppercorns, 2 tbsp white rice wine, 1 tsp sesame oil, dash of salt and 1 tbsp ginger juice.

Method:

  1. Marinate pork ribs for 1 hour.
  2. Cook pork in steamer for 10 mins. Serve!

Pork ribs with black vinegar

Ingredients:

  • 300g pork ribs
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 30g sliced ginger
  • Marination: 1 tbsp light soy sauce, 1 tbsp abalone sauce, 1 tbsp sesame oil, dash of pepper, 1 tsp sugar and 1 tsp cornflour.
  • 150ml black vinegar add pinch of sugar

Method

  1. Marinate pork ribs for 30 mins.
  2. Heat sesame oil, add marinated pork ribs and sliced ginger, stir fry for 3 mins. Add black vinegar. Fry thoroughly and serve!

Ingredients:

  • 300g pork sliced
  • 1 tbsp wolfberries soaked in warm water
  • Marination: 2 tbsp chopped garlic, 2 tbsp chopped ginger, 1 tbsp white rice wine, 1 tbsp yellow rice wine and pinch of salt.

Method:

  1. Marinate pork for 1 hour.
  2. Add wolfberries to marinated pork and steam for 30 mins. Serve!

Steamed fish in yellow rice wine

Ingredients:

  • 1 Threadfin fish marinate with salt, pepper and cornflour.
  • 100g chopped ginger
  • 3 tbsp sesame oil
  • Sauce: 1 tbsp soy sauce, 100ml yellow rice wine and pinch of sugar.

Method:

  1. Heat sesame oil in pan, fry fish until golden brown on both sides. Drain fish from oil.
  2. Bring sauce to boil and pour over fish. Serve!

Baked meat slices 

Ingredients:

  • 150g lean pork or lamp thinly sliced
  • 30g onions thickly shredded
  • 20g chopped old ginger fried to golden brown
  • Marination: 1 tbsp glutinous rice wine, 3 tbsp shaoxing wine, 1 tbsp light soy sauce, 1/2 tsp sugar, 1 tsp crushed peppercorns, 1 tbsp sesame oil, 1 tsp rice vinegar and 1 tsp cornflour.

Method:

  1. Marinate meat slices for 30 mins.
  2. Add in onions and fried ginger to marinated meat. Mix well.
  3. Wrap mix with aluminium foil. Place in preheated oven, bake at 200 degree for 15-20 mins. Serve!

 

 

Day 17

Ginseng Ling Zhi Soup

Cooking instruction:

  1. Quick rinse herbs and put into slow cooker.
  2. Add 3 bowls of water and boil for 2 to 4 hours.

 

Lemongrass chicken

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 kampong chicken chopped int chunks
  • 15 stalks crushed lemongrass
  • 20g crushed old ginger
  • 3 tbsp sesame oil
  • Marination: 2 tbsp light soy sauce, 1/2 tbsp dark soy sauce, 1/2 tsp salt, 10g rock sugar, 1/2 tsp pepper, 1 tbsp shallots juice.

Method:

  1. Marinate chicken overnight, keep refrigerated.
  2. Keep drained marination mix aside.
  3. Heat 3 tbsp sesame oil in wok, stir fry lemongrass and old ginger till fragrant.
  4. Add in marinated chicken and stir fry till half cooked.
  5. Add drained marinated mix and bring to boil.
  6. Cook chicken under low heat till gravy reduced or fully cooked. Serve!

Stir fried mushrooms

Ingredients:

  • 10 fresh Chinese mushrooms diced
  • 100g old ginger sliced
  • 3 tbsp sesame oil
  • 100g abalone mushroom
  • pinch of sugar
  • 1 tbsp light soy sauce
  • 3 tbsp white rice wine
  • 1 tsp cornflour and 200ml water mix

Method:

  1. Heat sesame oil, fry ginger till crispy.
  2. Add in Chinese mushrooms and abalone mushrooms fry till cooked.
  3. Add in sugar, soy sauce, rice wine and quick stir.
  4. Pour in cornflour and water mix, simmer till gravy thickens. Serve!

 

 

Day 19

Ginseng Walnut Norish Soup

Marmite pork ribs

Ingredients:

  • 200g pork ribs
  • Marination: 1 tbsp light soy sauce, 1 tbsp abalone sauce, 1 tbsp ginger juice, 1 tbsp white rice wine, 1 tsp cornflour and dash of pepper.
  • Sauce: 1 tbsp marmite, 1/2 tbsp sugar,  1 tbsp abalone sauce, 1 tsp cornflour and 100ml water.

Method:

  1. Marinate pork ribs for 1 hour.
  2. Coat with corn flour and deep fry til cook.
  3. Cook sauce til thicken and pour over cooked pork ribs. Serve!

  • 2 or 3 pieces of grouper fish fillets or steaks
  • 3 tbsp sesame oil
  • Marination: Pinch of salt, 1 tbsp white rice wine, dash of pepper, 10g fresh turmeric, 10g old ginger, 1 stalk lemongrass, 6 shallots all to grind in blender.

Method:

  1. Marinate fish for 30 mins.
  2. Heat sesame oil and fry til fish is cooked. Serve!

 

 

Day 21

Shou Wu Soup

Cooking instruction:

Baked honey chicken

Ingredients:

  • Half kampong chicken
  • Fried ginger strips
  • Marination: 1 tbsp honey, 1 tbsp light soy sauce, 1 tbsp sesame oil, 1 tbsp abalone sauce, dash of pepper, 1 tbsp ginger juice and 1 tbsp shallots juice.

Method:

  1. Marinate chicken for 1 hour.
  2. Arrange chicken on a baking tray and cook at 250 degree for 15 mins each side till golden brown.
  3. Immediately brush more honey on chicken and sprinkle with fried ginger strips. Serve!

Stew pumpkin with pork

Ingredients:

  • 200g pumpkin cut into chunks
  • 100g lean pork
  • 3 tbsp sesame oil
  • 10g ginger thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp light soy sauce
  • 400ml water

Method:

  1. Fry ginger in sesame oil, add lean pork and pumpkin. Fry well.
  2. Add light soy sauce, toss and add 400ml water.
  3. Cover lid and stew for about 20 – 30 mins. Stir and serve!

 

 

Day 23

Ingredients:

  • 1 bowl cooked rice
  • 2 tsp wolfberries rinsed
  • 30g dried longans rinsed
  • 2 tbsp sesame oil
  • 10g shredded old ginger
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp light soy sauce

Method:

  1. Heat wok with sesame oil and stir fry ginger.
  2. Add in egg and stir to scramble then add longans, cooked rice, salt, soy sauce. Mix well.
  3. Toss in wolfberries. Stir for 10 mins and serve!

Chinese spinach with lean meat

Ingredients :

  • Chinese spinach
  • 100g lean pork sliced
  • 1 tsp cornflour and 50ml water mix
  • 1 tbs sesame oil
  • ginger slices
  • pinch of salt
  • pinch of sugar
  • dash of pepper

Method:

  1. Seasoned pork with water and cornflour mix added with pinch of salt. Set aside.
  2. Heat up the wok, add sesame oil. Saute ginger til golden brown.
  3. Add pork, quick stir fry.
  4. Add Chinese spinach, salt, pepper and sugar. Mix well. Serve!

 

 

Day 25

Dang Gui Soup

Dang Gui Soup (Post-Natal TCM Confinement Herbs - Baby Safe & Convenient @ NewBaby.sg)

Cooking instruction:

  1. Quick rinse herbs and put into slow cooker.
  2. Add 3 bowls of water and boil for 2 to 4 hours.

 

Kailan with minced pork

Ingredients:

  • 100g minced pork marinated with 1 tsp cornflour and pinch of salt
  • 300g kailan
  • 80g shredded ginger
  • 2 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1/2 tsp chopped garlic
  • 1/2 tsp sliced shallots
  • 1 tsp light soy sauce
  • a little water

Method:

  1. Heat up sesame oil in a wok.  Saute shredded ginger until fragrant.
  2. Add chopped garlic and sliced shallots, quick stir.
  3. Add marinated minced pork, fry until cooked.
  4. Add kailan, stir fry for 1-2 minutes.
  5. Add soy sauce and a little water. Cook for 5 mins and serve!

Special Ba Zhen Soup

  2. Add 3 bowls of water and boil for 2 to 4 hours.

Red Wine Chicken

Ingredients:

  •  Half a kampong chicken chopped into chunks
  • 80g shredded ginger
  • 2 tbsp sesame oil
  • 100ml Chinese red glutinous rice wine
  • water
  • ½ tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp garlic finely chopped
  • 1 pinch of salt

Method:

  1. Heat up the sesame oil in a pot.
  2. Add ginger to the oil and fry until fragrant.
  3. Add garlic next and fry until golden brown.
  4. Add chicken and stir fry til surface of meat is cooked.
  5. Add Chinese red glutinous rice wine, salt, soy sauce and water.
  6. Cover lid and let it simmer. Stir it once in a while so that all chicken parts will absorb the wine well.
  7. Monitor water level, top up water if needed.
  8. Simmer for about 20-30 minutes until all chicken parts are cooked.
  9. Serve!

 

 

Day 27

Ginseng Ling Zhi Soup

Cooking instruction:

  1. Quick rinse herbs and put into slow cooker.
  2. Add 3 bowls of water and boil for 2 to 4 hours.

 

Hua diao meat

Ingredients:

  • 80g shredded ginger
  • 100g tenderloin beef or lean pork thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp hua diao wine
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 tsp light soya sauce
  • 2 tbsp sesame oil
  • dash of pepper
  • 1 tbsp garlic finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 1 tsp cornflour

Method:

  1. Marinate the tenderloin beef or lean pork with cornflour, light soy sauce and pepper.
  2. Heat up sesame oil and saute ginger. Stir fry until fragrant.
  3. Add in garlic and quick fry.
  4. Add marinated meat and hua diao wine. Mix well.
  5. Pour water in and bring to boil on high heat for 5 mins. Serve!

Confinement Tonic Soup

Cooking instruction:

  1. Quick rinse herbs and put into slow cooker.
  2. Add 3 bowls of water and boil for 2 to 4 hours.

Quinoa and millet porridge

Ingredients:

  • 50g millet
  • 50g quinoa
  • 20g pine nuts
  • 1 tbsp wolfberries rinsed
  • 5 pcs red dates seeded and halved
  • 10g dried longans
  • pinch of salt
  • 700ml water

Method:

  1. Rinse millet and quinoa separately and soak separately in water for 1 hour. Then drain.
  2. Add millet and quinoa together in a rice cooker with 700ml water and cook for about 45 mins.
  3. Add in pine nut, wolfberries, red dates and longans. Cook for another 15 mins.
  4. Season with pinch of salt.

Remarks:

Choice of minced pork or minced kampong chicken meat may be added.
